Building a Brewery 5: First brews and CROWDFUNDING!
Things are and have been so busy, and time is running so fast, that keeping you updated on the birth of our Tankbierbar is getting quite tricky. Here a few words and some pictures for you, in order to calm your thirst for updates just a few weeks before the one for our beer! 😉
Long story short, we travelled to Slovenia in order to sign off our tanks, came back within the same day and waited for them to be delivered to us, after the few quality improvements we asked for. We then selected the finest hops and malt from our trusted suppliers and collected them in Germany, together with some hops plants for our “Biergarten”. 😊
Meanwhile, tanks arrived to Europaallee! They got set up inside the Tankbierbar in a few hectic hours, but we couldn’t wait for one of the biggest steps in our project: the commissioning of the brew kit. Our automated brewing system consists of two vessels, a glass mashtun/kettle and a lautertun that also functions as whirlpool: it sounds like odd features, but we are glad to see how well it works. Plus, having a glass mashtun/kettle is simply incredible! We were amazed to see the ingredients being combined, the starch transformation during the mash rest and the protein coagulation during the boil; parts of the brewing process we know well, but were never able to eye-witness in such a cool way. We are sure you will love it too, as the people passing by our windows already did! 😉
At the moment the first 5 beers we will be offering you at the opening in July are all safe in our new fermentation tanks and they’re starting to smell and taste really promising! We’re checking them daily and follow their development, determined to have them properly representing our idea of quality beer...oh, if we could take care of them only! Other stuff needs to be sorted out though: making the furniture, tables and bar; ordering glasses; finishing off a ton of bureaucracy; and, last but not least, starting up our crowdfunding month!!!
